Why? In summer I like dark themes and in winter I like brighter themes. Sometimes I like it simple and sometimes I like it elegant. But because I actually prefer this one, the other is not bad. This is now exactly this thing, what people let vote others work down. Why? Is my current opinion, the only right one? I also think if there was only one windows theme for each windows version, then the group would not be necessary. That I could ignore.

No, I do not hate Windows but I do not like it too. And I just do not use it. We would have no more fun when Windows no longer exist. But why so many people make their Linux desktop look like Windows I do not understand. For a newcomer, it must be very confusing when a system looks like Windows but operates completely differently because it has a totally different concept of use. It shows unimaginative. I personally do not think windows is so beautiful that I would say it would be a successful design. It is that shocking green combined with light blue and red what is a pain in my eyes. I think the brainwashing by microsoft has worked well. I'm working on my icon themes for all icons that do not belong there to replace. Wish me good luck. :)

Best Regards

A lot of people like the look of Windows 7 and Vista, but do not like windows because it sucks and want to have that appearance on Linux

People who like windows style are the same that dual boot windows/ubuntu because they don't really want to use Linux!

They use Windows for playing, for working, for the internet, and run ubuntu for Compiz. They can say they use Linux, even if they have never compiled a kernel!

Windows sucks, its interface sucks, it's not user friendly, it's not beautiful, it's just windows! People whitch like windows style, like windows.

I have dual boot and I have windows/ubuntu:
1: I need programs from windows because don't work very good under wine, and Linux needs more programs
2: I use Linux for everything, and I consider myself a Linux user, and I admit that Linux is missing some things so I have to complement it with windows
3: It seems to me you're a little nazi with Linux

I do not have to think so radically as mtax but I see several problems.

1. There are surely many people thinking when they let their Linux distribution look like Windows, it also works like Windows. The disappointment is great when it is not so.

2. I do not agree with the most of stolen parts of Windows and then these will placed under a free or mixed license. (logos, icons and other graphics). I think that is the biggest problem.

3. Like I said: It would not be a problem if there were ONE Windows like theme. But it seems to be a race about who is the best to copy it. This will hurt Linux and its community. Especially the Windows "fanboys" laugh about.

To mtax signature: It is not necessary for me to compile the kernel myself every month, even if I could. I'm an Ubuntu user and I think your translation is wrong! ;) (This arrogance is just as bad as Windows like themes) It is not usefull to troll against all what you dislike. It does not make you and your habits better.

For all those who do not like my opinion: I have enough contents, which you can down rate. :P
This rating system is absolutely great!

Best Regards

There are currently too many themes of Windows 7, so I made one that is perfect itself, use real pixmaps windows 7 so technically it is a copy.
But if so they want the desktop as Win7, my theme is the best.
Although I really like the look of win7, I prefer my #qDrk ;D

It does not matter what Windows theme is the best, I will not use any of them. I installed Linux on my system and I love the opportunities to make it looks differently.

Is the best theme to copy the windows 7 look, not the best theme for Gnome.

Yes,I don't like default windows themes to,but some people don't like any theme that has transparent window border, because it looks like w7 or vista. It is an extreme.

I prefer full clent+nonclient area transparency than only nonclient area transparency. Full transparency is great, when we must work and need to watch some video.

Nonclient area transparency could be annoying, because border of window is less visible and some elements, like buttons in toolbox is less visible.

I like transparency and desktop effects. It gives me the feeling that my desktop is three dimensional. I see the world in three dimensions, why should I feel my desktop as a basic 2-dimensional object? Furthermore it can be very useful. About the taste how should look like a desktop can not argue. In my opinion only one thing it should not, down to the detail look like another operating system.

i hate windows and mac themes. in linux it is not too hard to make ur own themes, and why copy windows, which lots of linux users despise (mac, i understand more, since it's not losedows, but i still hate it). Themes of losedows or crapple remind me of them, which i would very much rather not. and u can make such nicer themes, so why settle for something that's already been done (and looks not too good)?

I find it bewildering to see so many desktops that mimic the windoze appearance in one way or another. Be it application launchers or window decorations, it's just plain wrong.
I am ashamed to admit I go all the way back to DOS 3.0 with m$ although I have made a clean break. I personally find any differences in the appearance or layout of Linux very comforting and soothing.
I have seen some attempts at reproducing the vista or w7 "start(if you're lucky lol)" panel. That scares me. Well, Mint Isadora's Gnome menu is kind of okay even if unnecessary but the default openSUSE 11.3 Gnome is just too darned close. When I opened it I could hear one of those staccatos from Psycho. "Yikes!" I thought, "I'd better change that!"
As a winders convert I plead for such nonesense to stop. We want Linux to be different - thats why we switched. It is also why I prefer Gnome, Xfce or Fluxbox. I do like KDE when it works but I always have to spend a bit of time fussing with the layout to make it more like Gnome or something.
Why should we want our desktop to look like the POS windoze is? It's shameful! :D
