Yes, it's about Ubuntu but it seems quiet in here. I only joined the other day myself.

By the looks of the prominently visible "No ubuntu wallpapers" group I guess it's quite obvious there aren't many people who would admit having used or currently using ubuntu.
BTW. I did use ubuntu for a while. I'm in other distros now mainly because ubuntu can't use bootsplash (ubuntu's initscripts are all fouled up and only usplash understand them).

You missed the whole point man :)

I think the no ubuntu wallpapers group
is necessery here, if you where here the
time when like 80% of the uploads where
naked girls with ubuntu logos on their ass
called "gnome wallpaper" ,I mean that shit
is f**ked up!

as the number of uploads increases, the overall
quality has gone way down!

Actually I'm a person who don't want any
kind of braning on my desktop :)
and I actually happen to know that I use gnome
and ubuntu and do not need a naked chick
with a ugly-ass logo on her ass to
tell me what I am running ffs!

and to top that all it's licensed under
GPL , gimmie a break!

I agree with you, the point is that isn't a kind of quality check on submitted works.

Before ubuntu explosion there was no need to have such a control, but now...

I know what the group is about. But if you read past the 2nd page you'll notice that the "topic" begins to degenerate (at least some users begin to) into a flamefest against the ubuntu users (just look at some of the comments, like this one from page 5:
"I join the group cuz i want to see on this site more creativity for ALL GNU/Linux systems.

I'm not using Ubuntu : i want GNU/Linux Art for all !

Ubuntu fanboys remember me Micro$oft fanboys ... are you the sames guys ?...

Another thing : there are too many copyrighted contents release under GPL : WTH ?!
( for exemple with Vista logo or others ...)
dont want to see Vistaish & Macish anymore !

Stop ripping copyrighted design : be original plz :(

I love Linux because IS Linux.

ps : sorry for my english :s"

or this one from middle of page 2:

"Have you ever been in #ubuntu on freenode? its a cesspool of stupidity. Really, its a damn zoo in that channel."
there are others like that in that group, just trawl it from page 1 to page 15 and you'll see).

Agreed, the flaming is pointless and sucks!

however, What the group stands for ("no ubuntu
wallpapers") is true! I'm mean, you gotta
admit that much:)

There are nice ubuntu wallpapers also,
I don't say that, and then again, that also
sucks, because then only ubuntu users can
enjoy them.

let's not forget this:
ubuntu==gnome = False

gnome is not ubuntu, and this is gnome-look
and not ubuntu look so I don't get
why we even have to have this discussion,
to me , it's obvious that ONLY gnome stuff
should be posted here :)

Ubuntu is a great distro and I use it
myself, I am not bashing on ubuntu,
I am bashing on the gpl'd "gnome wallpapers" ;D

I mean, if the overall quality of stuff
here would be the same it used to before
the ubuntu boom, would you think people
would be complaining?

Ptero4, I happily use Ubuntu. There are a pile of other distros based on Ubuntu as well. Unless you are going to "roll your own", you are using someone's distro. But whatever works for you is good too.

IMO, the "prominence" of the "no ubuntu wallpapers" group has more to do with the endless posting of a few who long ago made their point, but apparently now feel the need to keep the group "propped up" to prove something. Maybe it's some attempt to prove how great the group is or its members are? Maybe it's all just about having fun trolling? I don't know. It all seems quite silly to me (and even intentionally mean spirited at times), but maybe that is important to some.

In any case, I for one have no problem with "admitting" I use Ubuntu. They've put out a really nice distro and I've happily used it for the last few years. To each his own......

It's not that I don't like it (As I said I did use it before) What I was saying is that the "no ubuntu wallpapers" group stopped long ago talking about the wallpapers and went into some sort of "ubuntu users are idiots" flaming. This offcourse happens mainly in pages 2 up to like 10, then it goes into a "fistfight" over who agrees or not with the group creator.
