Description:

Hey there,
in order to improve and to optimize the usability and user experience, we have decided to investigate in improvements and additions of new features and functions to openDesktop.org. Important for us are our users out there. Therefore, we decided to ask you as our community to bring your ideas or wishes in so that we can collect them and implement them.
Which features do you think could be improved? Where do you see potential for further usability optimizations? Are there any functions or features that you're missing? Or do you know annoying bugs which bother you? Propositions for usability improvements are also welcome!
You can find a user group where we collect everything. It's also a place where we can discuss several propositions and concepts. So come on and get involved. We're looking forward for your ideas.

Hi,

Content RSS for all sites under opendesktop.org has stopped working. For instance:

http://www.kde.org/dot/kde-apps-content.rdf

http://www.qt-apps.org/qt-apps-content.rdf

Regards,
Pedro

 More control over comments.

I agree with other comments about the current structure of these pages being some what clumsy. The first couple of easier to implement suggestions I have are:
  • Make it easy for individual users to remove/edit there own posts.
  • Eliminate or reduce indentation on replies especially, they become quite squashed very quickly on my screen, and anything else such as descriptions of content. I know wide-screens are popular but they aren't universal yet and there seems to be more than enough wasted space.
  • I know you've heard a lot about improving the voting system.
  • Doing everything possible to make new comments take up less room, such as starting the text even with the profile pictures directly under the post title.
  • More advanced BBCode features (mainly be able to have words represent a link that is not fully typed out)

  • More complex things would be implementing a much better forum feature (I personally think the Ubuntu forum is very well done with its great ability to make even very large threads digestible with its various view options) and trying to improve speed of the site, it just seems slower than half the web for me.

Thanks for all the hard work in making such a useful website!

     Bad Bug

Since the beginning of the opendesktop plasma widget, which I believe is awesome, I noticed that everytime I log into my computer I have to manually put in my user name and password. This is not a problem if it is done for security reasons.

When I finally decide to enter my password and user name. The connection makes the whole desktop to crash, a couple of times, 3 times sometimes. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

the widget belongs to KDE not to opendesktop.org so you should ask at http://forum.kde.org.

You should check your settings of KWallet. I'm not sure whether the opendesktop-plasmoid uses KWallet to store passwords but at least it should.
With the crash I can't help you but if there is crash-message (which should be there) you should report it.

    *Feeling nervous*
Hey everyone. I've just started a group meant to start discussion on making a site to succede OpenDesktop.org

I do like this site but I feel that it could be a bit more focused. I mean no disrespect. If you're interested here's a link: http://opendesktop.org/groups/?id=581

     Deleted content remains in Fan

I just want to let you know, that when a user become a fan of a content and that content is then deleted (or maybe the creator of it deletes his/her account), it still remains in user's fan list of contents. And there is no way to stop being a fan of that content because when it is clicked on the page shows no opportunity to stop being a fan of that deleted content.

     POLL

by novomente on: Feb 26 2012

    Score 50%

This website have no option to start a poll. I was looking for this possibility when I wanted to start a poll on interesting things. Unfortunately I didn't find out how to start any kind of poll. So I managed to start it like a New artwork and then the poll was about voting for art up or down - as seen on these examples:

    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=140042
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=140078
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=148656

but these polls are not good implementations. So I suggest, because polls can be very interesting, to implement poll feature on *-look.org and OpenDesktop.org.
