Description:	I love multiple wallpaper on multiple desktop, with scroll button. I love Quicklauncher,and all the quick drag and drop functions. I love superkaramba with all the simple functions. I have a top computer but kde4 is so slow.... The menu is so unperspicuity. Kde4 have many spectacular visual effect, but for what? During work, after 10 min, I shot down all effect, since too slow, and too embarrassing (or too ugly). I love all the Ctrl+scroll functions,on kde3.5, and all the clocks.... Résumé: not everyone have a hyperspace computer, and new distros, with kde, must have alternative for kde3.5 AND kde4.

Ilya is right. OpenSUSE (Ilya) has done a fantastic job updating and packaging kde3 for the current release.

Sorry for my worst English !

For me, Kde 4.x the perfect surprise!
After a long time now I have been using.
As a second system in KDE 3.5 :(
As a slow day and plasmoids freezes.
I think: the system should be separated from their own programs, the eye-catching programs.
For example, the quicklanching one, the other thing is nice and big watches.

If you know me, All my work done on Kde3.5 !!

Trinity is making a cool job in making kde 3.5 still usable.

It's debian packages are installable alongside with kde4, and at login users will be able to decide which one they fell like using (if both are installed).

Maybe I got soething wrong in my head but I just like the revision 3.x better than the new 4 series. :)

ps: everythin is working just as fine in KDE3.x as it did in 4 series just faster without the eye candy ^.^

ok, didn't got the touch pad virtual middle button work as I wanted, but got it working => two lines in xorg.conf

I did not like superkaramba as it did not have good themes. But superkaramba applets can be ran by Plasma Desktop, so there is no reason to not use KDE SC 4

Neither all my computers are such. My most "powerfull" is X2 4000+ with 4GB RAM. KDE SC 4 feels snappier than KDE 3.5.10 did when last time tested. I have many 1.2-1.5Ghz Pentium 4/AMD Duron computers with 512-768 RAM and KDE SC 4 just flies on them as well.

To make computer usage faster, simpler and more intuitive. Shadows under window is huge bonus, Desktop Grid + Presentation is required feature for multidesktop system. Presentation effect is required if wanting to do multiple window operations (example document writing with 5 sources open)

Well, I dont know what is counted as "hyperspace computer", but 1.2Ghz AMD Duron, 512 RAM and GF5 card with 19" LCD display is very old already and KDE SC is snappy. Or how about 7 years old laptops? Very old already.

It depends a lot about distribution what you choose, example Kubuntu is as slow as Ubuntu is, not well compiled and packaged (or any other variant of it). Debian is fast, but Slackware and Arch just flies.
I would never again go back to KDE 3.5.x series, it was great at that time. But KDE SC has gone much further ahead from it since 4.2 release and that is 2 years ago...

SuperKaramba wasn't perfect and plasmoids are better integrated to the desktop I'll give you that. But too much is too much like desktop folder thingy, why can't desktop just be desktop? Somethings doesn't need to be remade as plasmoids in my opinion. Ok you can use the plain desktop mode so all hope hope is not totally lost.

Main problem here is that I'll each and every fadeout useless waste of time no matter how fast, elegant or subtle it is. minimize, menu effect ect. are almost always useless in my opinion.

Personally I usually use programs in fullscreen mode, window change/flip is enough for my needs and if you need multiple sources why not just use different virtual desktops for them? + windowlist has been enough for me.

I still think kde3.5.10 is better than plasma-desktop.
ProBook 4530s 4GB memory with OpenSuSE 12.2 I still feel that kde4 is sluggish and bloated. No matter that I have disabled almost every eyecandy I can find. Those dolphin folder animations annoy me... where can you disable them?

By sluggish I just mean that personally kde3 stiiiill feels more responsible -> maaaaybe because those useless and slow fade out and animations that kde4 has by default, they only waste my time.

Colorpicker wastes space on horizontal panel because it thinks the picker and color ball should always be on top each other.

Networkmanager applet is piece of bloarware as well, I only need a list of available wlans... nothing more.

Also they should have taken example of the Kmenu search that opensuse had while it used kde3.5 series. Ok ok we have the alt+f2 menu for searching things.

And why can't I store my password in insecure storage with kmail anymore if I choose so? Bloody annoying to have kmail prompting for password every time it checks mail jsut bicooos I don't tolerate the kwallet prompting password way too often.
(kwallet, wlan password loop thingy I had with the old laptop made me ditch the kwallet totally)

Also, is the horizontal split coming back anytime soon for the dolphin? ( ctrl+t ctrl+l in kde3 dayz )

Also if they want improve the KDE4 usability they really should add "disable ALL Window/Desktop/Plasma-Desktop Manager animations"

Try nm-applet, usually a Networkmanager derivative for gnome, it's well reduced to the essential configuration parts.

I use KDE4 on a Gentoo box which allow me to chose whatever I want or not to install from the KDE suite.
I don't have nepomuk nor network manager, too....and many others.
Thinking of KDE3, I really can't imagine me back on it.

Alt+Shift+F12 => disable effects & animations (see System Settings - Desktop Effects)

I still using KDE 3.5.x.
KDE4 is still missing important things and have anjoying bugs. KDE 3.5.x is a stable workhorse which do a excellent job.

The following things keep me on KDE3.5.x:

- panels cant be stacked (important for me! but kde devs still refusing to made it, not hard to implement, very useful if you have a lot of windows open and window list is an extra panel as in kde 1-3)

- grouping panel is very hard to configure and looks a little bit unfinished (arrage applets hard, no way to swap rows, ...)

- akonadi is getting very busy for some time with large imap trees

- kmail shows some imap messages duplicated

- imap folder access with kmail is slower than kmail1

- print dialog is still very limited (no print preview, no poster print, psnup filters missing, print multiple pages on a sheet missing, no duplex print options)

- FolderView keeps sorting icons bug still exist (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=227157)

The most important for me is the panel issue. When the panel got more love and the feature of panel stacking will be back? Also, the grouping panel could be help a bit but its really need work on it to get it in usable state.

Someone to know to get the issues of KDE4 solved?
