Yeah, even though I'm pretty new to Linux. I loved AmaroK (Ubuntu got me hooked, now I love Kubuntu)

HOWEVER, as anygood love story would go...


I used to love Winamp.(OK, IT"S AMAZING TOO. MILKDROP VIS. ARE SIMPLY STUNNING. I"M SORRY AMAROK. BUT MILKDROP IS BEAUTIFUL)

BUT NOW, I love AmaroK!

I mean, it even got me into last.fm :D

And it loves me. Well....Not at first..
Because 8.10 first release's Kopete only supported Nowplaying with Amarok 2.





WTF?!

THAT"S NOT EVEN OUT YET o.O

But, that's ok!
AmaroK always watches out for me. :D(Now playing bash script for Kopete with AmaroK 1.4)

If you like Milkdrop, go check out ProjectM. It supports Milkdrop presets and it works with Amarok (I've been using it for some time). It is in the universe repository IIRC.

As for Kopete's support for Amarok2 - it's not released yet, but there's a beta available, and many people use Amarok2 from SVN. Not as stable or feature rich as 1.4 (yet), but still usable.

I'd like to hear what you guys think about the
amarok 2 release and what's better and whats
worse since the amarok 1.x release :)

Personally I think the playlist is much better in the
first one, but the collection thingy seems to
be more useful in 2.

Then ofc there are the applets that are absolutely
great in the second amarok.

I have kinda mixed feelings about this second installment
of amarok and would like to hear what you guys think!

I'm not so sure what to make of it yet. I was looking forward to amarok2 for years, but there are a few things I really don't like, now that it's (almost) there.
One thing is the playlist. I love amarok for it's easy-to-use playlist, working exactly as a detailed filemanager window. It had more functionality than any player ever offered. I'm often listening to a random mix playlist (a feature I've also not yet discovered in amarok2) and the old playlist can display much more information there using much less space.
I also don't like how much space is wasted in the controls part of the window. That's just too much unused space.

That'd be two of the main things that annoy me. It just doesn't look ready yet.

exactly my thoughts about the playlist :D

I was at first terrified to see that the playlist wasn't
the same as in amarok 1.... I guess I never really
got used to the fact that it isn't and I'm considering
going back to amarok 1 since it really made the
listening to music enjoyable :)

I really hope that the final version of amarok 2
will be more "advanced" than the current in the
trunk...

The part I really liked about the playlist was
the fact that you also mentioned, that it acts kinda
like a file manager with the filter plugin and everything...

anyways... still by far the best music player :)

The playlist in the first release ( 2.0.0 ) will be much simpler than the one in 1.4.x, but we have many plans for what we want to do with it moving forwards. So while it will never be the same as the old playlist, it will get much of the flexibility back over time.

Hm, I thought I could edit my last post but seems I can't.

Anyway, Im running Amarok 2 rc1 from Gnome on a gentoo Box now. Used a custom ebuild and kdeprefix use-flag.
It runs really smoothly. Tried many features and it hasn't crashed on me yet. Only gapless playback doesn't seem to be in yet. Or it's my crappy phonon settings. Who knows. But I'm all into it. Awesome development :)

Yeah it's great in many ways :)

I'm usually a guy who thinks "change is
good"
but the only downside I see is the playlist
,it was so much better in the amarok 1.

the thing I miss the most is the "filter"
plugin for the playlist, if it is there
then please tell me how to "show" it.

I always used to have a lot of tracks
in the playlist and that filter plugin
allowed me to locate any of them within
a second, I think it's meant in amarok
2 to keep the playlist real short and
filter the collection instead.

anyways, I'm also compiling svn many
times a week to spot any new changes :D

anyways, ones I have gotten a little
used to the playlist it doesn't bother
me much anymore.

amarok is truly the best music player
out there, no doubt!

(Alas, Dial-up. So, I'll get to it when I take my computer to highspeed for a bit)


AND OH NO!
I've yet to update to AmaroK 2 because....DIALUP
But, I didn't know about this sucky playlist thing.

I have faith however in the developers. If it's REALLY that bad, enough people will complain and they OR someone will step in. I mean, I would be all up for help with such a development plugin to restore OLD functionality, BUT, I am still a baby coder. But hey, there's an idea :D
