Description:

Result: Linux Is More Reliable than Microsoft Windows! Glory to the Penguins!!!!

Price
-----
The majority of Linux variants are available for free or at a much lower price than Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft Windows can run between $50.00 - $150.00 US dollars per each license copy

Ease
-----
Although the majority Linux variants have improved dramatically in ease of use, Windows is still much easier to use for new computer users.

Microsoft has made several advancements and changes that have made it a much easier to use operating system, and although arguably it may not be the easiest operating system, it is still Easier than Linux.

Security
--------

Linux is and has always been a very secure operating system. Although it still can be attacked when compared to Windows, it much more secure.

Although Microsoft has made great improvements over the years with security on their operating system, their operating system continues to be the most vulnerable to viruses and other attacks.

Reliability
----------

The majority of Linux variants and versions are notoriously reliable and can often run for months and years without needing to be rebooted.

Although Microsoft Windows has made great improvements in reliability over the last few versions of Windows, it still cannot match the reliability of Linux.

Open Source
-----------

Many of the Linux variants and many Linux programs are open source and enable users to customize or modify the code however they wish to.

Microsoft Windows is not open source and the majority of Windows programs are not open source.

Software Cost
-------------

Many of the available software programs, utilities, and games available on Linux are freeware and/or open source. Even such complex programs such as Gimp, OpenOffice, StarOffice, and wine are available for free or at a low cost.

Although Windows does have software programs, utilities, and games for free, the majority of the programs will cost anywhere between $20.00 - $200.00+ US dollars per copy.

Software
--------

Linux has a large variety of available software programs, utilities, and games. However, Windows has a much larger selection of available software.

Because of the large amount of Microsoft Windows users, there is a much larger selection of available software programs, utilities, and games for Windows.

Hardware
--------
Linux companies and hardware manufacturers have made great advancements in hardware support for Linux and today Linux will support most hardware devices. However, many companies still do not offer drivers or support for their hardware in Linux.

Because of the amount of Microsoft Windows users and the broader driver support, Windows has a much larger support for hardware devices and a good majority of hardware manufacturers will support their products in Microsoft Windows.

Support
-------

Although it may be more difficult to find users familiar with all Linux variants, there are vast amounts of available online documentation and help, available books, and support available for Linux.

Microsoft Windows includes its own help section, has vast amount of available online documentation and help, as well as books on each of the versions of Windows.

Linux: Because rebooting is for adding hardware

Solaris: Because you don't need to reboot to add hardware

Windows: Because rebooting is for adding hardware, adding software, regularly cheduled downtime, and should also be done on a daily basis to keep the machine running.

There was a quote on the "Windows Haters" group that says: "Microsoft Windows: A collection of 32bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16bit patch to an 8bit O.S. originally coded for a 4bit microprocessor written by a 2bit company who cant stand 1 bit of competition."

While Microsoft Windows IS a more common and popular Operating System , I say Linux is better because it is flexible with both the Terminal CLI and a GUI. Microsoft Windows is a massive exploitable GUI Operating System that takes a ton of effort to set up.

And to think Linux's first minimum requirement without clutter only needed 4MB RAM, some CPU, I forget which, and a very tiny amount of hard disk space. We evolved a lot since then!

It's pretty much the Linux Source Code with as minimal stuff s possible. I think it can be found at http://linux.org because I remember seeing system requirements on it somewheres.

Here is an example distro, but has been unmaintained since 1998: http://jspiro.tripod.com/linux/hal91.htm

At linux.org you can find maintained and unmaintained Linux distros with specific categories. Take a look!

 Windows Evil

Microsoft is an evil empire since personal computer ever announced. November in 1983, Bill Gates showed a beta version of Windows to IBM's head honchos. Their response was lackluster probably because they were working on their own operating system called Top View. IBM did not give Microsoft the same encouragement for Windows that they gave the other operating system that Microsoft brokered to IBM. In 1981, MS-DOS became the highly successful operating system that came bundled with an IBM computer.

Top View was released in February of 1985 as a DOS-based multitasking program manager without any GUI features. IBM promised that future versions of Top View would have a GUI. (microsoft DOS has no GUI, so it may be hard to users to use it). Then, that promise was never kept, and the program was discontinued barely two years later.

No doubt, Bill Gates realized how profitable a successful GUI for IBM computers would be. He had seen Apple's Lisa computer and later the more successful Macintosh or Mac computer. Both Apple computers came with a stunning graphical user interface. On that day, Bill Gates realized that Apple's Lisa is more powerful, with powerful GUI on that time. User can even play games, Solitaire is the first game included in Macintosh.

Competition:
As a new product, Microsoft Windows faced potential competition from IBM's own Top View, and others. VisiCorp's short-lived VisiOn, released in October 1983, was the official first PC-based GUI. The second was GEM (Graphics Environment Manager), released by Digital Research in early 1985. Both GEM and VisiOn lacked support from the all-important third-party developers. Since, if nobody wanted to write software programs for an operating system, there would be no programs to use, and nobody would want to buy it.

Microsoft finally shipped Windows 1.0 on November 20, 1985, almost two years past the initially promised release date. Also has Graphical user interface. then, in 1990, Windows 3.0 or called WINDOWS FOR WORKSTATION, from that time, MICRSOFT was on the way to become an evil empire.

Then, in 1994, NCSA mosaic announced the first BETA version of Netscape. Microsoft is now feel that they are left behind in the competition. To take part in the competition and take control of the businesses, windows has now launched Windows 95, with Internet Explorer. As we see now, Micrsoft doesn'tlet others take part in the competition.

As Windows NT is announced, the website, the networking systems (both intranet and the internet) and the webservers has all running the Windows NT. The empire is not be long, when Linux with the most powerful Apache Hypertext Transfer Protocol Server now taking about 1/3 the total webservers in this world. There's about 100 Million of webservers using the Linux after Unix.. Servers are better managed using Linux (many thanks to Linus Torvalds) with its reliability to run servers continuously and simultaneously. Now, Microsoft is not alone in his cloud-nine businesses...

Glory to the penguins....

"Microsoft is an evil empire!!!"
