Description:

Shiki-Colors mixes the elegance of a dark theme with the usability of a light theme, resulting in a hybrid theme. Shiki is designed to be fast and stable.

There is a Clearlooks version for out-of-the-box compatibility with most distros and a Murrine version for eyecandy and speed.

There are 7 color variations (Orange, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Chocolate, Pink). A matching set of Icons, Wallpapers and GDM themes can also be downloaded separately from gnome-look or at the gnome-colors project page.

You can edit the theme's source (the gtkrc files) for further customization, which is all too easy due to the included instructions.

Must read or clowns will eat you:
* The Murrine version will only work with Murrine 0.90.3 or newer. Yes, you will need to upgrade unless you're using Ubuntu Jaunty.

* The borders are very thin, and titlebars/menubars are unified because of "LOL, ELEGANCE". If you have any difficulty resizing windows, try the included alternate metacity with thicker borders.

* In Ubuntu, for themes (installed through appearance preferences) to be able to theme applications in admin mode, you must type in a terminal:
sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root && sudo ln -s ~/.icons /root

Fedora users can get an installable package of Murrine 0.90.3 (x86) here until is not available in release section:

* In Ubuntu, you can use the official PPA repository for easy installation and upgrades. For Ubuntu Karmic Koala, you can simply run apt-get install shiki-colors to install from Ubuntu's universe repositories. The packages are also available in Debian Sid.

* To fix minor Firefox 3 bugs in Shiki-Colors, install the Stylish add-on and go here (or install the included userChrome.css file following the instructions in README):

Please make a Xfwm version of Metacity Shiki-dust.

Really LOVE your work. I like Dust theme, but without Xfwm it doesnt look good.

Shiki-Dust is done. It's based on the easy variant because I can only fit one XFWM in the Dust folder, so I went with the one that is easiest to resize.

PerfectSka, You've got an EXCELLENT set of themes and such. But, at least to my eyes, there's one thing that could be a little bit better: On the green and orange (Wise and Human, respectively), I really think the contrast would be better if you used black instead of white as the foreground text color for those versions (leave the other versions with white text on highlights, of course). Other than that, this set of themes is hard to beat! :-)

I think the wise version has readable contrast with selected bg (selected bg for panels is even darker, for better readability as well), although anyone can adjust this in appearance preferences, colors tab if it's any difficult.

As for human, the old version was a bit hard to read, but I think it's not an issue in the new version with the slightly darker/reddish palette.

Either way, Shiki fully supports theming from the Colors tab in Appearance preference, so as eyesight differs - people can change text or colors to suit their liking without messing with the theme files yet.

Right, I've already gone ahead and done that. I'm just saying it would be nicer if that were the default in those two versions (I may go in and edit those values in those particular GTKRC files myself to make it permanent on my computer, in fact...).

Hey Thanks for the update. Its awesome. Just wondering is there a wallpaper for dust that is identical to the other ones but in the sweet dust color? I'd use photoshop if i knew how :P?

I tried making one after I finished the dust icons, but the dust palette doesn't lend itself to the current wallpaper design... so much brown looked.. like something other than chocolate or coffee. I finally just ended up using the wallpaper from Ubuntu's Dust project.

I've been working on brand new either photo-realistic or abstract wallpapers, so perhaps once I get around to that - dust will get better consistency with the others.

If you have Inkscape, making an background of any color you like is really easy... just:

1. Save file and open in Inkscape.
2. Select the blue background below the other objects.
3. On the toolbar to the left, click the second pointer icon (edit paths by nodes)
4. Press SHIFT+CTRL+F
5. To your right, click "Edit..." under the color bar and choose any color you like.
6. Now just click SHIFT+CTRL+E and Export the image as "Page" with the resolution of your liking.

Dropdown entries in QT4 apps are not rendered properly. See screenshot linked.

Only the 'active/selected' entry in the dropdown is rendered properly. Other options are barely visible.

Oh. btw.. the screenshot is VirtualBox 3.0. VirtualBox 2.2 had the same issue as well.

This is a qgtkstyle bug, not a theme issue. It worked properly a few months ago (I think around their revision 830), then an updated revision broke dropdown menus. Perhaps a bug needs to be filed there.

Hmm... since qgtkstyle has been merged with QT, I guess I'm stuck for now. But the problem doesn't appear to exist if I use New Wave them that is shipped with Jaunty.

To be more exact, they're using menu font color for popup colors, instead of simply using popup colors. Any hybrid theme with dark menus will have this issue, I can confirm that it happens with Ubuntu's "Dust" as well.

Victor, if u think this appropriate, add that Fedora users can install Murrine 0.90,3 engine via this RPM: ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/development/i386/os/Packages/gtk-murrine-engine-0.90.3-1.fc12.i586.rpm (x32) or ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/development/x86_64/os/Packages/gtk-murrine-engine-0.90.3-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm (x64).
It's name says that is for Fedora 12, but it matches Fedora 11 and (maybe) earlier versions.

I am not sure is this is current, since as of this time that said RPM for gtk-murrine-engine is giving an 404 error.

Would it be likely that the said file could be found at one of Fedora other (many) mirrors?
(this is assuming that it's on Rawhide... maybe)

Someone is also working on RPM packages and a repo for Fedora with all the themes, although currently only SVN can be packaged (the spaces in the metacity make it hard to package the current stable version).

I'm not too familiar with the naming/branches of Fedora repos. For me, Main repo usually represents the stable, main archive. In this case, you were referring to the factory/unstable branch.

Look: "gtk-engine murrine-0.90.3" now in development section (future Fedora 12). When Fedora 12 comes out (early November) it will be in release section. Until then it will be available from my Dropbox.
So "... until it is not available in release section."
