Description:

Moomex Theme: The goal of this theme is to provide an Eye Candy for your Gnome Desktop.
This theme aims to be very elegant with a complete and consistent look.
I use this theme on Ubuntu, but it can also work on other distributions.

Feedback of any kind is always appreciated.

Hi, i'm a little new to linux and i was wonder how i'm supposed to install this theme.. it says nothing on how to install. I use windows very much only because of one simple program that i need, but its fun to try something new sometimes. How do you install?

Hi,

Assuming you have Ubuntu, do the following:

1. Download the theme to your desktop, or whereever.
2. Go System->Preferences->Appearance
3. Click Install, navigate to the downloaded theme
4. Choose the theme

Hi,

I love the Moomex-theme, it looks very spiffy.

But do you know a way to (also) display the menu text of OpenOffice in white? With me it remains black and thus hardly readable..

I fear it's a known bug in OOo with dark themes and not fixed yet (Firefox and Thunderbird had that one also but there are fixes for them). Don't know if it has been reported yet.

Pitty - i like your theme. And especially pitty, when u say it will happen with all dark themes.
But i can't change theme a couple of times a day to be able to use open office :-/
No workaround either?

You don't have a mailing list, where i can subscribe - so i am up to date when the bug gets fixed?

I also hope it will be fixed soon.
Firefox and Thunderbird also have the same bug but there are fixes for them.
I'm not too sure if there is any workaround for OOo to fix this bug.
Sorry I don't have mailing-list and I will try to update the theme once a month. The theme will get prettier.

I did manage to fix the OOo bug but this will introduce even worse bugs.
I have a partial solution for this problem but am not too sure it will please everyone.
By the help with the color schemes support, you can change the OOo menubar fonts to white and you also have to change the windows background to a darker color (gray-black) otherwise you will get white text in white background for the menu style. ( The whole theme will be dark as the second screenshot)
I will update the theme in a few days to support this feature.

I'm really really thankful for your comments and feedback, it did help alot.

You've made an awesome looking theme but it's got two problems that I've found so far (besides the OpenOffice one).

1) The panel is stuck at the huge minimum of 33 pixels instead of 24

2) The background image you used for the panel is somehow being tiled and used as the background for the launcher properties window. Go to the link for a picture.

The only workaround to set up the panel size automatically is to make it no less than 33 pixels. To change the panel size with less than the optimum size you have to edit the gtkrc file. Type in Terminal:
gedit $HOME/.themes/moomex/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Comment this line under style "panel-moomex"
GtkWidget::focus_padding = 7

I'm very aware of the create launcher bug. In fact if you search for the word "BUG" in gtkrc file and comment that line, the problem will be fixed. However, you have to set up the panel background manually. I'm working on another approach to fix this bug.

Thanks, I did what you said to do and it half fixed the problems. Now the launcher properties window is gray again and a lot more readable, but the buttons and text for it are still black. Any idea how to fix that?

Also, the panel is now perfectly resizeable, but some of my applications in the launcher have gray backgrounds instead of matching the one for the theme.

You have to set the panel background manually but you will lose the fancy panel style. I told you this is not the best way to fix the bug. I'm working on another approach.

How do I configure the thunderbird toolbar to show white text like the fix you gave for firefox?

Currently the Thunderbird toolbar text is dark.

Thunderbird and white font menubar
(as root)
in /usr/share/mozilla-thunderbird/chrome/classic.jar
open /skin/classic/global/menu.css (line 170)

change:

.menubar-text {
margin: 0 1px !important;
color: #inherit;
}

to:

.menubar-text {
margin: 0 1px !important;
color: #ffffff;
}

save as menu.css on the desktop, and replace /skin/classic/global/menu.css inside the classic.jar
