Description:

VERSION 1.4.1
It has come to my attention that some older versions of the pixmap engine (like the one found in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) have a bug that causes severe visual glitches when transparency is used in menubars. If your menubars and panel indicators are messed up, go to the Fixes page of the Orta Settings Manager and check the option "Select this if your menus and panel have visual glitches". This will also remove transparency from the Gnome Menu Bar applet, so if you use this applet with the flat panel option to make the panel transparent, you are out of luck.

INSTALLATION :

Ubuntu PPA :

Please make absolutely sure you have removed any previous instances of the theme before installing via ppa.

To add the ppa and install the theme and the settings manager, type this on a terminal :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nikount/orta-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install orta-theme

To install the emerald decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-emerald-decorators

To install the Xfwm4 decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-xfwm4-decorators

You can find the Orta Settings Manager under the Preferences category of your Main Menu.

Manual Installation :

Extract the extractme.tar.gz archive that you find inside the zip, to a folder of your choosing. Inside, you will find the theme (Orta.tar.gz) and additional decorators (Orta-Squared.tar.gz and Orta-Old.tar.gz) along with some folders. First, right click on OrtaSettingsManager.py and make sure that the "Allow executing file as program" option is checked. Run it and press the uninstall button to remove any old versions of Orta from your system. You can install the theme and decorators manually by dragging and dropping them to the Gnome Appearance Preferences window, or you can use the installer on the Orta Settings Manager (recommended if you want to install for all users including root). Now you can go through the various tabs of the Settings Manager and setup the theme according to your preferences. When you are done click the save button. Make sure you select another theme on the Appearance Preferences dialog that pops up, and then go back to Orta in order to apply your changes.

Leave the orta folder alone, it includes the Orta Settings Manager files .

Inside the Chromium folder, you will find a Chromium theme and different sizes of scrollbars to install.

Inside the Awn folder you will find an Avant Window Navigator lucido style. There are also 5 emerald themes inside the emerald folder.

LICENCE :

The pixmaps are licensed under the Creative Commons non commercial share alike license, and the code under GPL v3. I've also included the original xcf sources of the pixmaps so that anyone can easily modify the theme to his/hers preferences.

Changelog:

Fixes:

- Synaptic fix for gtk2-engines-pixbuf version 2.20 and older.

- Main menu icon size reverted to 22.

 Text Cursor and Selected Item

by xkocahete on: Mar 20 2011

Hi,

I think the "GtkEntry" is a bit squeezed, in which the blinking text cursor disappears at the end. Also there's no way to know which "Entry" is selected.

Talking about selected, there is another thing missing. In a selected row you can easily navigate between the columns with the arrow keys, but there's no indication which column is selected.

See screenshot side-by-side with Ambiance.

Well the cursor thing is kind of a byproduct of using the pixmap engine to do the entries. It's the only way to produce soft shadows like that, but it also has some issues ... As for indication to which entry is active, there is a blue highlight. It's more subtle than the on in Ambiance but to my eyes it's viewable ( though i also happen to work with a fully calibrated IPS monitor).

You are right about the list focus indicator, i removed it because it looked ugly, it didn't cross my mind that people find it useful, sorry.

If i find some free time, i intend to rewrite Orta, and i will try to fix these issues. Thanks for taking the time to report them :).

Thank you for doing this. :)

Now that you mention it I can see the selected entry. It's just too subtle for me, and a huge deal-breaker as I use the keyboard to navigate quite a bit.

If you choose smooth in tabs, horizonal tabs are connected with their windows when you choose them but vertical tabs aren't connected(red ones)

it would be great if its like in blue.

 Little glitches in GMB

by PhotonX on: Mar 29 2011

Gmusicbrowser seems to use some non-standard widget types so it looks a bit ugly with Orta:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1507406/Auswahl_2011-03-29-10%3A21%3A00_380x773.png

Notice the background color of the track infos and the white rectangle behind the dropdown list on the bottom. I assume that GMB needs to use those widgets to allow its configurable interface, but maybe it can be fixed from Orta's side? I've seen screenshots with simpler themes where everything was ok but don't know whether it's fixable in such a complex theme like Orta...

 gedit

I love the theme. I've figured out how to change a couple of items (terminal colors), but I'm stumped with one of them, gedit. When I run gedit as myself, it comes with a dark gray background and off white text color by default. If I use gksudo and run it, the background is white and text black.

I've looked through the setup files, and can find no difference between the files in ~/.orta, /usr/share/themes/Orta or /root/.orta. Can you give me any help?

Thanks!
