Description:

[Requirements]
You need Compiz and Color Filter plugin to use this!

[Description]
This is a color filter, which inverts the grayscale (black to white, white to black) but keeps the same color.

[Purpose]
It is useful for reading text on your monitor for a long time. If your eyes hurt from reading black text on white background, this is for you.

[Hint]
1. If white text seems too bright still, use the brightness plugin in Compiz to lower the brightess to about 80 or 70.
2. You can use this filter along with the Negative plugin from Compiz to invert the color. TRY IT! (watch Avatar with it?)


[Installation]
1. (optional) copy the file to /usr/share/compiz/filters/
2. Open ccsm
3. Open Color Filter
4. Click New and browse to the file
5. Use the keybindings to enable the filter
Note: Turning the plugin on has no guarantee that the filter is the one I gave you. You need to switch filters to the right one.

A white box appears around the window (when you have a shadow in your theme?)
Fix: Turn off Filter window decorations in Color filter plugin.

May not work in Ubuntu 10.04

I use an inverted theme all the time (dark back light text) just for the reason of it being easier on the eyes. One area that is difficult to deal with is web pages with the white backgrounds. I'll give this a go and see how it works.

If you haven't looked at the NightShift-eye care stylish theme for firefox, it is definitely worth a look. You can grab it here:

Thanks for work with compiz. Very few people actually do additions for it and it is a truely elegant desktop independent window manager (for desktops modified to work with it - currently kde3, kde4, Gnome, E17 (ecomorph) and a branch of xfce (I forget the name)

I used to have a inverted theme, but some programs just don't work well. Ever tried OpenOffice on a dark theme? The background is dark, but the text is still black.

I find Compiz gives me more control over what, how, and when to flip the colors. I had used Negative for a while, until I wanted to see what color some things were (such as the status icons in Pidgin).

It doesn't run under new ubuntu 10.04 tls.
When I enable Color filter plugin, Compiz says it can't load the 8th filter. And when I try to switch it on, Compiz fails. I'll try it also on my another computer to check whether it's caused by some netbook-specific graphic drivers or what.

But I like the idea, my whole desktop is white on dark blue and I use Negate often, but it's not so nice when viewing web sites.

I've been using CCSM's Negate to ease eyestrain, this is so much better! I got it working on Ubuntu 11.10 by adding it as root to /usr/share/compiz/colorfilter/data/filters in a file named invertBlackWhite. In CCSM's color filter I added a new filter file named "invertBlackWhite" and it works great. Thanks again!!
