Description:
This is my first try in python (i am a professional java developer). So actually i really wait for comments and maybe possible improvements.
I have found 2 lacks in deskbar applet:
- it doesn't see manual entries in xfce menu
- you need to manually refresh the applet if you install new app.
So i decided to fix it. Here is my plugin.
The plugin parses xfce menus:
- $HOME + "/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml
- /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml
and all desktop files in:
- /usr/share/applications
The files are read on each query (to make it possible to see immediately just installed apps. i don't see a problem here, files are really small and on my laptop there is no difference if i read on each query or only on the beginning); the search result is depend on the name of the application (as it is specified in menu.xml or *.desktop file).
to install it - just untar file to ~/.gnome2/deskbar-applet/modules-2.20-compatible and enable it in a deskbar applet preferences.
Once again - any comments or improvements are very welcome!
